The role of foodservice in the healthy eating debate

By Berenice, Friday 11 March 2016

The health of the nation is never out of the headlines. And, the role the foodservice and hospitality industry should play is also a source of continuous debate. This crucial subject will be considered by Ken McMeikan, group chief executive, Brakes Group, along with other highly-relevant subjects, when he addresses industry colleagues at the Arena Savoy Lecture on the evening of Monday 4 April 2016.

As a company of scale and market leader, Brakes Group, under Ken McMeikan’s leadership, recognises that its responsibility to customers and the industry is far greater than just the delivery of food. It’s also vital that customers have access to a wealth of value-added services such as business support, sector expertise, recipes and food-related innovations.

Healthy eating remains a hot topic and there is not a day when it doesn’t hit the headlines.  From the obesity crisis to super-foods we are continually bombarded with information. Brakes Group seeks to support its customers by sharing its wealth of nutrition expertise, providing menu and recipe development support, and targeting product innovation.  For example, just as with salt, sugar reduction without compromising on taste is a current priority.

As well as providing insight and opinion from industry leaders, the Arena Savoy Lecture is popular with hospitality and foodservice professionals for the face-to-face interaction it generates. The specifically-designed format offers ample opportunity to connect and catch up with industry colleagues throughout the drinks reception and three-course dinner.
